Alonia Guest House

Alonia Guest House

Since 1990, an old mansion in the “Alonia” neighborhood south of Agios Ioannis has been converted into a mountain refuge offering overnight accommodation and food to mountaineers who wanted to visit the highest peaks of the White Mountains.

Over time, Alonia was transformed from a one-room retreat into seven separate bedrooms, maintaining the same atmosphere and philosophy: A place of tranquility but at the same time a starting point for winter and summer excursions in the surrounding mountains.

The White Mountains

The White Mountains are a mountain complex that covers most of the prefecture of Chania.
Together they form a paradise of special natural beauty with amazing alternations of beautiful beaches, cliffs and deep canyons, centuries-old pine and cypress forests, ending in an eerie alpine landscape with countless high peaks.
It hosts many endemic species of flora and fauna.

A huge network of paths and routes for all kind of hikers and tastes start from Agios Ioannis. The paths can take you to the beach, the gorges or the high summits of the White Mountains.

Where the road ends, the trail begins.

The area of Agios Ioannis except from a hiking destination, is ideal for a range of alternative activities.
